My good friend Lindsay Blatt has asked me to play for the opening of her new show of photographs. It is particularly exciting since Hang the Lights will also be playing. That is Josh Camp's project of breathtaking rock songs.
Lindsay spent the year photographing Brooklyn shoe repair men. The photos are great. Next Thursday from 6-9. 33 Washington Street. Rabbithole Gallery
We should all go to hebrew school. I mean, of course, David Griffin's blog. He is a brilliant guy who puts real energy and thought into writing about music he is constantly discovering. He is writing a cycle of songs about hebrew school. He was kind enough to come hear vetro last sunday and write a bit about it. The part about rugs was pretty smart, since I am totally obsessed with Morton Feldman and that's what he tried to do with some of his pieces.
Please come hear us play the music from my first album, Vetro, this Sunday at Le Poisson Rouge on Bleecker St. It's a nice club, the sound should be great. I don't know when this ensemble will come together next. We'd love to see you there. To get more info, and to buy tickets, click here.
My good friend Omar (political pundit for omarsez) has outdone him self with this. Onward to Victory!!!
Yesterday a bunch of us went to Northeast Philadelphia to volunteer for Obama. Our job was to knock on every door in this lower-middle class neighborhood, verify who lived at each address, make sure they were registered, register them if they weren't and try to answer any questions they may have had. It was a tiring and sobering day. The scariest thing we all found was that many people thought they had already voted for Obama and didn't have anything else to do. They were confusing the primary with the general election. It was also pretty shocking to go from house to house and see such vastly different poilitical views. The McCain/Obama/Undecided people were pretty much equal in number. And they are entrenched. It seemed pretty obvious that people who told us they were undecided were not going to be voting for Obama. It is definitely not like walking down a street in Brooklyn. People told us they were registered, but they could have just been saying it to get us off their stoops. There is also a great mistrust of giving your name to the government, which is understandable in light of the last 7 years. Some of the registrations only happened after 20 minutes of convincing. So, it is hugely important to try and go somewhere and slog it out for this campaign. You will have great conversations with people, register new voters, eat a cheese steak.
If you want to buy the hippest Obama t-shirt around, go here
All profits go to the campaign.
hey all - this is to announce that I will be playing at Le Poisson Rouge on October 5. I am going to be playing my cd vetro, live, with a great group of players that is coming together as we speak. Thanks to everybody who came out last night for monologues for minerals. Allergies hit me hard yesterday, but from what I could hear it came out alright. Thanks again -

Julien Bismuth and I are doing another show performance of our monologues for minerals. these are texts by Julien which I scored into 18 short radio plays. they feel like old 50's detective stories but they go on very strange trips which I find fascinating to follow. please visit my website to hear them. we are hopefully going to premiere the opening of our new work, PICK'S ARREST, the story of travels of our man pick. the show is at barbes this sunday, 9/21, at 7p - right before a show by my old friend janine nichols.
In other news, my good friend and collaborator Virginie Yassef is in town from Paris because she has a show up right now at the alliance francaise, at their fiaf gallery on 60th street. I wrote the music for a film that's in the show, (Julien did the text, come to think of it) and Emily Hurst of Las Rubias del Norte narrates. If you are in midtown, stop by.
